The Shang valley trek is an enjoyable short trek of moderate grade which takes you into a hidden valley between the more popular river valleys of Markha and Indus. This region is relatively less trekked and interspersed with small hamlets and dogpas (shepherd settlements). The trip involves going up to passes that are of similar height (the gradient of this trek resembles a saddle!).The trek is also part of the outer periphery of the Hemis National park and one can see blue sheep and other wildlife. One can end the trek at Martselang with a visit to the Hemis monastery before returning to Leh.Day 01: Delhi Arrive Delhi. Overnight hotel (Breakfast) Day 02: Delhi / Leh Fly Delhi to Leh. Day at leisure to acclimatize. Overnight hotel. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner) Day 03: Leh Sightseeing of Shey, Thikse . Return to leh. Overnight hotel. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner) Day 04: Leh to Stok drive (14kms) Trek to Manikarmo Drive to Stok palace museum. Continue the drive to the trek starting point. Stok to Manikarmo (14,000ft/4,240m) - 5 to 6 hours A 30-minute drive gets you to roadhead at Stok, from where the trek begins. One walks up the melt water streams that flow from Stok Kangri. The jagged slices of rock formations are interesting on this day. Overnight camp.(Breakfast ,lunch and dinner) Day 05: Manikarmo to Gyangpoche (13,590ft/4,080m) - 5 hours. Gyangpoche is a grassy meadow that is inhabited by the shepherds in summer. Overnight camp (Breakfast ,lunch and dinner) Day 06: Gyangpoche to Shang La (14,200ft/4,300m) - 6 hours. This is a fairly long day of trekking with a gradual ascent to the base of the second pass on this trek. Overnight camp. (Breakfast ,lunch and dinner) Day 07: Shang La base to Shang Phu (13,900 ft/4,174 m) - 8 hours. Overnight camp. ( Breakfast ,lunch and dinner) Day 08: Shang phu to Martselang (11,200 ft/3,400 m) - 6 to 7 hours Trek down the last gorge of the Hemis national park. One hour drive to Leh after visiting Hemis monastery. Overnight Camp. (Breakfast ,lunch and dinner) Day 09: Leh / Uleytokpo In Leh. Sightseeing of Spituk Phyang , Likir and Alchi. Overnight Uletokpo camp. Day 10: Uleytokpo / Lamayuru / Leh Drive to Lamayuru and return to Leh. Overnight hotel 
Day 11: LehDay at leisure in Leh. Overnight hotel. Day 12: Fly Leh to Delhi. Overnight Hotel. Day 14: Day at leisure . Overnight Hotel . Day 15: Transfer to the airport for onward International departure. |
